Program Summary

Learning How to Negotiate Statements of Work: Learn the ‘real’ ins and outs of drafting and negotiating one of the most important, yet often neglected, contract documents: The Statement of Work. Statements of Work are key documents in any professional services contract and many larger software licenses and cloud services agreements. They are also critical in every outsourcing engagement. Understanding the most common pitfalls and how to avoid them is something every practitioner should know. Unfortunately, these documents are frequently neglected and deferred until after the overarching agreement is executed, when negotiation leverage is at a minimum. In this presentation, we will distill knowledge gained in drafting hundreds of statements of work.

Key topics to be discussed:

  • Understanding the interplay between the statement of work and overarching agreement
  • Key elements of every statement of work
  • Controlling fees and staying on budget
  • Example best practice language to be included in relevant statement of work
